New Heathrow strike announced

It seems to be a constant merry-go-round of strikes at airports at the moment. Last week, the Border Force strike was back on again after being initially suspended. Now we have another union, Unite, who have called a strike for 800 Heathrow workers. It is not clear which workers would be on strike but Heathrow say that they do not anticipate any significant disruption to passengers.

However, Unite says that they expect firefighters and airside operations staff to join the strike, which could potentially bring significant disruption to the airport. Nothing has been officially announced for these workers yet.

The strike is due to last from 12.01am on Tuesday 7 May until 11.59pm on Monday 13 May.

The dispute is over plans to outsource staff at Heathrow.

Radisson Sale – up to 35% off

View from Superior Room with Radisson York

Radisson’s summer sale has launched with 35% off for Radisson Rewards members. You can join for free to get the full discount.

Here are the details:

  • Book before 2 May 2024
  • Stay from 1 July 2024 to 10 September 2024
  • Breakfast included
  • Radisson Rewards members earn 2,500 extra points per stay
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific regions included

The drawback is that the Prepaid Rate requires payment in full for the entire stay at the time of booking. The name on the reservation must be the same as the credit cardholder’s name, and the same individual must check in for the stay. Reservations cannot be cancelled, amended, or adjusted after booking.

You can find the sale page here.

IHG Targeted bonus – 80% bonus?

Luxury Hotels

IHG has launched a bonus for buying points, which is targetted. Most people appear to be getting the 80% bonus. If you don’t need points now, I’d be tempted to wait as we often see a 100% bonus offer with IHG. Unlike pre-Covid, it can make sense to buy points instead of paying cash for high-value stays, but make sure you check the rates for your specific dates and that they have points stays available. Then book immediately after you have bought the points.

You can buy up to 250,000 points during the offer period but you must buy a minimum of 5000 points to get the bonus.

You can find the buy points page here.
