50% off Avios flights to Jersey

Beauport Bay, St. Aubin, Jersey, Channel Island

British Airways, for some reason, has decided to specifically discount Avios flights to Jersey. If you haven’t been and fancy an easy, relaxing short break, Jersey is the perfect place. I have been several times and love the beautiful beaches and scenery. There’s plenty to do, from historic sites to wine tasting.  It has two 5* hotels, which I would recommend, Longueville Manor and The Club Hotel & spa.

The 50% discount on Reward Flights is for travel between 1 October and 31 March 2025. To qualify, you need to make a new booking between Thursday 20 June and 4 July 2024.

IHG Points and cash 15% off sale

IHG hotels are offering IHG One members a discount of 15% on the cash portion of your booking when you use Points & Cash for Reward Nights. You need to book by 21 June 2024 for stays up to 31 July 2024. The offer may be targetted. You can check if you have the offer by logging in and then trying a booking. The discount will show up if you select points and cash.

Here is an example of what you should see (Intercontinental Phuket that I reviewed here)

Typically points and cash bookings are not particularly good value, but they are useful if you haven’t got enough points. With IHG, you are effectively buying points with the cash at a slightly better rate than the standard buying points rate. However, with 100% bonus offers being fairly frequent, the rate is still slightly worse than the 100% bonus offer, even with the 15% discount. There is, of course, no guarantee that the 100% bonus will come back. IHG has also offered 20% off Points and Cash before, but again, there is no guarantee of when it may return.

If you were to cancel your booking, the full points are returned to your account. You do not get the cashback, only the points that you have “bought.”

You can find the points and cash page here.

Aer Lingus strike

Aer Lingus pilots have voted in favor of industrial action, with the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (IALPA) saying that 99% of members that took part voted in favor of taking action.

IAPLA wants a pay rise of nearly 24% versus the airline offering of 12.25%.

IALPA has to give Aer Lingus at least seven days’ notice of any industrial action, but may give up to 14 days’ notice. However, the work to rule will start on 26 June 2024.

Aer Lingus says it is currently assessing the impact of the industrial action served by IALPA.

The airline says in a statement that “The nature of this industrial action will cause a significant impact on our flight schedules. However, our focus is on communicating directly with impacted customers when we can and notifying them of their options. We will also be communicating directly with third party agents including travel agents and online agents. Passengers who booked through a third-party should contact their sales agents for any updates.”

The good news is that the airline says it will try to accommodate customers as quickly as possible, work with other airlines, and seek to hire aircraft for this purpose. Regional services between Belfast and Great Britain should not be affected.

The most up to date information on IALPA’s industrial action can be found on the ‘Travel Advisory’ on the Aer Lingus website at aerlingus.com.
